Race retro has established itself as an impressive motor sport show, offering an unrivalled combination of indoor show and trade stands, classic car auction (H&H always comes up with an admirable lot list), and outdoor live action. The show attracts superstars from all over the world – and
a correspondingly international selection
of showgoers.
For 2011, ex-Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert will be making a guest appearance with Jaguar, and will feature on the interview stage, sign autographs and demonstrate his driving skills in the historic karting demonstration on the live rally stage, sponsored by the charity HERO. Also on the live rally stages, Miki Biasion will drive one of his ex-championship Lancia Delta Integrales.
Other notable events celebrated include the Birmingham Super Prix. It’s 20 years since the race weekend was cancelled, and Race Retro marks its passing with star cars including the Sierra RS500 driven by Andy Rouse to win the BTCC, and one of the original MG Metro 6R4 challenge cars. There will be original event posters, programmes, and documentation
on display too.
Another big draw will be the E-type’s big birthday – on Sunday, the Jaguar E-type 50th Anniversary Tour will call in on Race Retro. No less than 50 big cats, including one driven by Martin Brundle, are stopping off on their way to Geneva, the venue of the original launch in 1961. The Mini Cooper Register will be out in force at the show for the Mini-Cooper’s 50th anniversary, with six cars fresh from their
run in the historic Rallye Monte Carlo.
