Goodwood Festival of Speed is to have an extra day added to its schedule, Lord March announced at the press preview on March 18.
The new day, on Thursday 1 July, will be a ‘Moving Motor Show', for potential new car buyers to use as an exclusive preview day, where they will be able to experience the latest cars not only on display but also onboard, being driven on a special evaluation course that includes the famous Goodwood hillclimb.
The cars from the Moving Motor Show will remain at the Festival for the rest of the event, Friday 2 July to Sunday 4 July, in a static display in a new pavillion next to the start line.
Meanwhile, the usual Festival of Speed attractions continue, with an overall theme of ‘Viva Veloce! – The Passion for Speed’, encompassing Italy’s influence on motor sport. Alfa Romeo’s centenary celebrations will be a major part of this, taking over the automotive sculpture at the front of Goodwood House, and exhibiting over 50 important Alfa Romeos, including the UK debut of the new Giulietta.
Other anniversaries being celebrated include 60 years of Formula 1 World Championship, 60 years of Carrera Panamericana, 50 years of Forest Stages on the RAC Rally, and 50 years of the Bathurst Great Race.
Other highlights include the attendance of six of the current 2010 Formula 1 teams and their drivers, including Jenson Button; six-times World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb in his CitroΫn C4 WRC on the Goodwood rally stage, American star Ken Block in his 800bhp Ford Fiesta and NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip accompanying a line-up of NASCAR race cars and even the wild Toyota Tundra Craftsman Truck.
Tickets will be by advance booking only. Tickets start at £35 for general admission on the Friday, £50 for the Saturday or Sunday, £107 for the weekend, with extra charges for grandstand seats. Children (12 and under) go free.
