It's the centenary year of Alfa Romeo, and Alfas of all eras, were all over Race Retro from the main display as you enter Hall 2, and all over the show as many stands used this anniversary for an excuse put an Alfa on their stand, Alfa Romeo Grand Prix star Bruno Giacomelli also put in an appearance.
Other star cars included many Audi Quattros, Escorts. Opel Mantas, Minis and one of my favourites the Austin 1800 Land Crab. '70s Super Saloons were represented by the outlandish Tony Hazlewood Daf and ex Mick Hill VW Beetle, both lovingly restored.
Lola Cars latest continuation project (after Lola T70 Spiders and GT3B Coupes) is the unlikely sixties Lola T90, at present unfinished but will recreate the 1966 Iny winning chassis of Graham Hill Red Ball Special. The Alain de Cadenet Duckhams Special from the 1972 Le Mans made a welcome reappearance, this car also achieved fame in the worlds of Super Saloons as the reclothed Colin Hawker DFVW.
As ever Race Retro is a mecca for historic motor racing fans, and is a must to attend and perfectly complements the NEC Classic Car show in November.
