Steve Read’s Ford Anglia was prepared for competition in 1988 and originally raced by Rod Burley as the 'Arm-Roll' Anglia . It’s now been raced consecutively for 21 years and as it’s getting a tad tired now, Steve will complete some restorative work over the winter months. The car is shared with his wife Liza, but will become her full-time race car very soon, once Steve has completed building his 1956 Studebaker. 'It’s a monstrous thing and will be like racing the Ark Royal,' he jokes!
Graeme Dodd was relishing the chance of taking his 1968 Ginetta G16 out on the National Circuit, as the car is relatively new to him. Powered by a 2.0 litre BMW engine and weighing around 600kg, the G16 is pretty quick, and can achieve speeds up to around 135mph on the pit straight. 'These cars were fitted with all sorts of engines, but were only homologated with the FIA with the 2-litre BMW engine,' explains Graeme. 'I was just handed a photo of my car when it was raced at Crystal Palace, and it’s amazing how similar it is now, to when it was raced in period.'
Glynn Evans spends much of his working day preparing race cars for other enthusiasts, but he’s recently got his hands on a Porsche 911T to race himself. 'It’s a bit of a tired old road car, but with a freshened up motor to be fitted over the winter months, I’m looking forward to a full season’s racing in 2010,' he enthused!
The camaraderie within the HSCC is most tangible, everyone’s out to have a fun action packed day of racing. For many drivers it doesn’t matter where they are in the field, for others it’s a slightly more serious affair. One thing is for sure, it’s a great day out for both competitor and spectator! There’s access to the pit lane garages and paddock, so you can get right close up to the action. Viewing cars being fettled and tweaked ready for racing is hugely interesting, but don’t forget your ear plugs, it can get very noisy at times!
