Sir Stirling Moss and Murray Walker teamed up to great effect for Octane’s Evening with Sir Stirling Moss at London’s Royal Automobile Club in association with EFG International last night, giving 250 Octane readers a highly entertaining repertoire of stories from Stirling’s days racing, partying and ‘chasing crumpet’.

The two old friends talked late into the night about meeting racing legends such as Nuvolari and Fangio; current Formula One (both Stirling and Murray agreed that conventional gearboxes and fewer electronic aids would make the racing more interesting); Jenson Button’s chances of winning the world championship (2:1 odds says Stirling); and the highs and lows of racing single-seaters and sports cars. Sir Stirling is admanant that, although his wages were never particularly high, he had a much better life than current F1 stars.

At the end of the night Octane readers were able to ask their own questions, and Stirling later commented that the sessions was extra enjoyable thanks to the in-depth knowledge of the Octane audience.
