Fastest car was the Ford Puma Gould Xtrac of defending champ Mike Endean, with a time of 9.63 seconds/142mph

A mix of glorious sunshine, blue skies and 300 varied and interesting cars and motorcycles of all ages, shapes and sizes drew in bumper crowds for this year’s Frost’s Brighton National Speed Trials on Saturday September 12. This unique event, first run in 1905, is a standing-start quarter-mile sprint along Brighton’s bumpy sea-front promenade.

Fastest car was the Ford Puma Gould Xtrac of defending champ Mike Endean, with a time of 9.63 seconds/142mph. Top motorcycle was Roger Simmons’s Suzuki at a blistering 8.80s/164mph. The Brooklands Museum’s 1933 24-litre Napier Railton record-breaker was star attraction. In support was everything from chain-driven vintage Mercedes and a tiller-steered Orient Buckboard to a “Dukes of Hazzard” Dodge Charger and Ferrari F40s.
