August 15, 2009 saw a World Record gathering of 15 Ferrari GTOs at the Laguna Seca Golf Club, venue of this year's Concorso Italiano. The amazing collection of cars was brought together in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the 288 GTO. According to respected historian Marcel Massini, the previous record gathering occurred 25 years ago at Zandvoort, when in June 1985, 12 cars were assembled.
This year, the record-setting 15 cars assembled over the Monterey Weekend in an event organized by 288 GTO owners Joe & Margaret Sackey of Joe Sackey Classics LLC.
The cars assembled represent roughly half of all 28 GTOs resident in the USA. All GTOs are indeed special, but some of the distinguished cars participating included the ex-Turin Salon factory show-car chassis number 52743, the last production GTO chassis number 58345, and one of a handful of works GTO Evoluzione's, chassis number 79888, kindly shipped in for the meet by Larry Stroll.
