Car clubs were an integral part of the day’s line-up that included the Historic Caravan Club, Sunbeam Talbot & Darracq Register, Gwynne Club, BMW Historic Motor Club, Daimler Lanchester & BSA Club, Pre-’40 Triumph Owners’ Club, and Railton O/C & Brough Superior to name but a few. Perhaps the star attraction of the day for many enthusiasts, your humble scribe included, was the Edwardian & Light Car Section display of early cycle cars. For sheer simplicity
Les Bayliss’s 1920 Auto Red Bug took some beating, as did Tim Gunn’s 1919 Grafton Mono cycle car. Other weird and wonderful creations included Mark Longmore’s 1914 Crescent cycle car, Keith Bowley’s 1921 Tamplin, Adrian Ward’s 1913 aero engined Chater Lea, the 1924 Scott Sociable, not to mention a brace of Bedelia cycle cars. A fabulous display to be sure!
The Saturday Spectacular was a most fitting way to complete the week long 75th Anniversary celebrations, an event on such a scale that probably won’t be repeated for a long time, and one not to be missed. Owners of 849 vintage cars and over 1000 members thought so too!
