Under perfect blue sky, this year's The Quail: a Motorsports Gathering attracted thousands of motoring enthusiasts to what is now one of the best events at the Monterey Week. Tickets for The Quail were reportedly being exchanged for over 2000 dollars prior to the event, as visitors tried to get hold of one of the limited number of passes for the hottest show in town. The lucky few were not disappointed, with delicious oysters, Italian, American and German food, Californian wine and Champagne providing a backdrop to the display of superb motor cars and motorcycles. Best of Show was awarded to Bob Lee's 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B, which was finished in bright lipstick red. The Octane choice was the class-winning 1937 Delahaye 135M owned by Peter Mullins. Finished in two-tone blue, this Figoni et Falaschi example is a stunner.
