Latest M5-munching AMG monster revealed
Mercedes-AMG has announced details of its latest weapon; the C 63 Coupe- the car it hopes will conquer the high performance coupe market.
With rivals in the form of the BMW M4, Audi RS5 and Lexus RC F, the C 63 has a lot to live up to, besides standing out and above its standard model alternative, the C-Class Coupe.
Unsurprisingly, AMG haven’t taken their latest album lightly. In ‘S’ trim it produces 503bhp from the tuning firms lethal 3982cc V8, which just for good measure comes with two turbochargers strapped to it. Bolted to an AMG Speedshift seven-speed automatic, the car will do 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds and go on to a typically-German-capped 155mph.
In the bends the C 63 benefits from added rubber, with a set of 255 section boots on the front and 285mm at the rear, also aiding acceleration as a result. Suspension has been tinkered with too, in order to tame such power and cornering characteristics.
Beyond performance, the C 63 Coupe enjoys AMG’s now iconic bonnet bulge, with the bonnet itself 60mm longer than before. Flared wheel-arches, a front spoiler and AMG skirts all adorn the car too.
It wouldn’t be an AMG without that rorty engine note, which in the C 63 Coupe comes courtesy of a set of flaps positioned in each of the four tailpipes, opening when the revs say so.
Inside, the AMG C-Class receives the usual AMG trimmings, including Artico/microfibre Dinamica man-made leather and cloth, optional performance seats, and Alcantara steering wheel trim.
The car will break cover in the flesh at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15, with a market launch due for March 2016.
