The Mercedes-Benz 350SL first appeared in late 1971 as a replacement for the venerable R113 280SL. The new car, known by its internal designation R107 by the factory and by enthusiasts alike, was a clean sheet design for the new decade, yet one that brilliantly captured the relaxed, easy going nature that made the 230/250/280SL series so endearing. Yes, the SL was a sports car in that it had two seats, handsome sporty lines and a folding convertible top – yet it was also a capable GT car that could be driven daily thanks to its roomy trunk, comfortable seating and automatic transmission. It could be pushed along sweeping back roads or motored across country in all sorts of weather with the factory issued hard top in place. The R107 was a true year round sporting car. During the development period for the R107, Mercedes-Benz was feverishly working to achieve exceptional quality and unprecedented levels of safety with its cars. As a result, the SL was one of the first cars of the “golden era” for Mercedes-Benz quality and longevity. The 107 SL proved to be a runaway success for Mercedes, thanks to the thoughtful engineering, tank-like build quality and excellent performance from the V8 and inline-six engines. Production of the R107 lasted from 1971 through 1989, making it the longest production run of any Mercedes-Benz passenger car to date. Only the Galandewagen off-roader remained in production longer than the R107. With just 1,406 miles from new, this remarkable 1985 380SL is one of the finest of its kind. We have yet to find an SL of this era with fewer miles. As one would expect from such a low mile example, the body panels, trim and bumpers are arrow straight and fresh. The correct original color scheme of Diamond Blue (code 355H) over Alpaca Gray leather (Code 278) is beautifully presented and of course, virtually flawless. All fittings, finishes and details are correct from top to bottom on this stunning automobile. Inside the cabin, the gray leather – a welcome optional upgrade from the standard MB Tex – is excellent as is all of the carpet and delicate wood trim. A matching gray factory hard top and a blue German canvas soft top are included, both unmarked and excellent. Under the hood is found the 3.8 liter, aluminum V8 engine with correct factory finishes, hardware and markings. As a 1985 model, it features the updated double-row timing chain for superior durability – not that durability is much of a concern with just 1406 miles on the clock. The R107 series has recently begun to catch the attention of collectors thanks to the timeless Bruno Sacco-penned styling, as well as their tough and hard-wearing nature. These robust cars are very satisfying to drive, and offer a relaxed and enjoyable experience from behind the wheel. Its next keeper can revel in the same experience the original owner did, driving it fresh from the showroom some 30 years ago. .

The wood veneer is preserved and the fascia is perfect. All the gauges, controls and electrics operate exactly as they should, as does the factory optional Blaupunkt Cambridge M23 stereo cassette. The original jack, first aid kit and even the dealer supplied Mercedes valet kit and wheel changing guide are stored alongside the spare wheel! The boot area has factory build stickers present. The interior of this super low mileage example is essentially flawless and has been preserved in A1 condition. A comfortable refined and ergonomically designed environment. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The light alloy V8 engine with fuel injection and transistorised ignition produces 215bhp at 5500rpm to achieve a top speed of 133mph whilst offering extraordinary reliability. The engine bay is spotless and retains all manufacturer stickers, plates and panel stampings. The factory wax can be seen on components revealing the originality of this car impossible to replicate. This gloriously smooth and powerful engine it is mated to the four-speed torque convertor automatic transmission which is seamless in operation. An altogether flawless and assuring driving experience and a real must for any motoring enthusiast. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES The original wheels remain fitted with the colour coded and chromium plated 12 hole trims which are pristine. The factory fitted Michelin XDX 205/70 VR14 tyres are fitted to all five wheels and retain excellent tread all round. Dual-circuit servo assisted brakes with discs to all four wheels are further enhanced by the optional anti-lock braking system to offer powerful stopping capabilities. HISTORY FILE Registered new on the 26th May 1982 by Mercedes Main Dealers Bradshaw Webb (Chelsea) Ltd, this amazing example has covered a mere 18,971 miles with just three traceable keepers. The history file is simply incredible starting with the original Mercedes plastic wallet housing the service book, handbook and absolutely all dealership literature including the factory build card. Furthermore, a huge collection of main dealer and specialist invoices and receipts portray this cars cosseted existence and every MOT certificate from three years old serves to verify the mileage. (SOLD) This 1982 380SL is a low-mileage, exceptionally well-maintained example with a trove of service records. And with fewer than 100,000 miles on the clock, this Benz is just getting broken in. The signal red is an elegant color for conservative Mercedes-Benz but on this little roadster it's the perfect choice and compliments the car's spirited performance. Both the soft top and hard top are, of course, included. The interior is all original and has held up well. The seats are clad in MB-Tex and show very well with no splits, holes or tears. The red with palomino interior is a great color combination, and a refreshing change from the sea of beige SLs on the market. The famous Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels remain in good condition wearing a set of modern black wall radials. The highly original engine bay shows signs of regular maintenance and that's about all these cars need to be reliable for many thousands of miles. The 4-speed automatic clicks through the gears in a businesslike fashion while the all-independent suspension soaks up bumps with a well-damped thump while still remaining sporting enough to be entertaining on a twisty country road.
