Quality abounds with this beautifully restored Mercedes-Benz Pagoda, surely the finest on the market today.
First delivered in June 1970 to Mr. Peter Flagg of Meriden, Connecticut as a birthday gift for his wife, the Arabian Grey coachwork chosen by the Flagg’s for their love of grey horses and still sported today is an unusual yet perfectly suited colour for this elegant roadster. Contrasted with vibrant red leather and dark grey soft-top it’s a handsome and rare combination that really appeals.
This car has had just five keepers from new, passing via two short tenures in Connecticut to prominent M-B Owners’ Club Member and president of the W113 Club of America, Mr. Douglas Kim. Now a New York resident, our Mercedes continued to live a coveted life being showcased at local car events and becoming particularly well-known to fellow model enthusiasts.
Fast-forward to 2003, when this car was purchased by Ms. Nicola Colley who repatriated her Mercedes to UK shores in late 2005, some 33 years after it first left our Continent. It was used regularly until late 2011, after which, starting from early 2012, it became the subject of a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration involving a bare-metal strip and respray, and a complete engine and gearbox overhaul by a host of experienced specialists, not least, celebrated Mercedes-Benz authority, Cardock Classics of Dublin who have painstakingly rebuilt this car to original specification.
With its classic status today continually rising, the Mercedes-Benz 280SL is a truly timeless classic considered to be one of the most comfortable and civilised sports cars on the market, and our car, with full UK V5C registration and fresh MOT test certificate is worthy of the highest consideration.
