1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Convertible s/n 1130441202022744 Dark Blue with Tan Interior After more than a century of superb automotive craftsmanship, Mercedes-Benz continues to be heralded as one of the premier innovators of performance and luxury. Decades of racing achievement and luxury refinement matured dramatically as US market growth encouraged new models, further endearing the brand to new and dedicated customers. The mid 60s proved to be a rapidly changing time for sports cars, the budding 230SL needed to replace both the 190SL and the iconic 300SL – an ominous task as the 300SL was a performance brute, but the 190, was nearly the opposite. The 230SL delivered perfectly, proving immediately appealing to customers seeking a charming and sporty car with clean styling and captivating details. The clarity and simplicity of design continued under the hood with technical advancements including Bosch fuel-injection, overhead-cam six cylinder engine, and syncromesh transmission, delivering reliable but brisk performance. A convertible top, and substantial trunk space allowed for elegant presence and practical traveling, even over long distances. Among the many features offered in the

Mercedes Pagoda 280 SL 1970 43.500 km 170 cv
In 1963 on the Geneva Motor show, the all new W113, Mercedes 'Pagoda' 230SL was introduced. Its very sleek and elegant design introduced a complete new Design wind within Mercedes. Beautifully designed by Paul Bracq, Béla Barényi and Friedrich Geiger, the design brought airiness, roominess and elegant timeless lines and was well appreciated by the public. Production of the Mercedes W113 commenced in June 1963 with the 230sl. Living up to the heritage of its predecessors, the infamous 300sl and the smaller 190sl, was a big task. However, with the uprated 250SL in 1966 and the biggest, 280sl model in 1967, it was a top selling product in the very high end luxury market and lived up to the task extremely well. The formula seemed to be a great success and the W113 Pagoda has iconic status today. The Pagoda is one of the most sought after 2-door sports roadsters for Sunday cruises as well for the heavier rally work. The top model, the 280sl, propels you with ease to 200km/h with the 170 horses underneath the bonnet. With an empty weight of 1360kg, the power to weight ratio can be called ' very sporty' and great fun! The car we offer you for sale is one of those 7.935 280SL units produced in 1970. It has been restored to very high standards and is almost new from top to bottom. It comes with the very desirable hard top, making it a very comfortable 'winter' car as well as a wonderful summer convertible cruiser. This example is the nicer European spec model, preserving the elegant lines and front headlight lenses. The white steering wheel, will give you that same high end feeling when you will sit in the new interior listening to the original Becker Mexico radio. The only thing you have to think of, is to put it in Drive. The automatic gearbox will do the rest. With a lovely summer coming up, you absolutely cannot be without this car. Capable of cruising to the Côte d'Azur or an speedy local rally, this Pagode in absolute stunning colour setting is the one to have. Please come over and inspect the car. We are convinced that you want to take it home after a test drive. http://www.historic-competitionservices.eu/nl/mercedes-280sl-pagoda

The Mercedes-Benz SL is a grand tourer manufactured by Mercedes since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sport Leicht, or Sport Lightweight &mdash, and was first applied to the 300SL, often referred to as the 'Gullwing' due to its gullwing or upward-opening doors. The term SL-Class refers to the marketing variations of the vehicle, including the numerous engine configurations spanning six design generations 1972 to 1989. >>>>> Oldtimerfarm is going to renovate! Description Having spent most of its life in the States, this 1969 Mercedes 280SL Pagoda was in a remarkably rust free state – one of the best we’ve ever seen, in fact. Residing in a dry state meant the car was able to avoid the rust problems that often plague classic Mercedes of this era, and we were astonished by the originality of the shell. There were no signs of previous accident damage or previous welding, and even the smallest details were still correct to how they would’ve left the production line – the original seams and spot welds, for example, are still visible; details which are often masked by previous paintwork and body repairs. Taking all these original features into account meant it was quite possibly the best 280SL Pagoda shell we’d ever come across. With the car’s previous owner having spent a considerable sum with us on a full body restoration, repaint in DB180 Silver, full conversion to European spec, new hood and partial interior re-trim, in addition to numerous smaller improvements throughout the car, we relished the opportunity to add it to our stock, as we know the car intimately. The restoration is fully documented with over 400 images, which will be suppli

Description This is a 1 former keeper, original UK market, RHD 280SL Pagoda – the most desirable specification. The car is currently in bare metal and is coming towards the end of the metal fabrication stage. We will be taking this shell to a number of car shows in 2017 in bare metal, such is the quality of the fabrication work. Our plan is to paint the shell in our signature shade of DB 172 Anthracite Grey Metallic. Once assembled, we are confident this will be the best example of a 280SL Pagoda in the UK. An exciting and enjoyable project to take on for any prospective buyer looking for the very best 280SL.
Description We’re currently completing a restoration of this California spec, LHD 1970 280SL Pagoda with automatic transmission. Despite being off the road for many years, the shell was largely corrosion free, having been found in a barn in Mexico. The shell has been built to concours standard, freshly painted in its original colour of DB 050 white and is currently in the final stages of re-fit. The engine has had the best rebuild possible, and the car has been visually converted to European spec (comprising deleting the side markers and fitting European spec headlamps and bumpers). The interior is yet to be re-trimmed, which leaves it in an ideal position to be tailored to a prospective buyer’s requirements.
Mayfair 020 7125 1400 | Maldon 01621 879579 Mercedes took a strategic decision in the 1960’s to develop more usable and more powerful Sports Cars than their earlier 190 SL version of the W 113 model. The plan was to build a comfortable two seater which was to be smaller and less expensive than their illustrious 300 SL Roadster but never the less built to Mercedes’ usual high quality standards. Hence the evolution of the 230 /250 / 280 SL’s on the W 113 platform exhibiting excellent road holding and enjoying superb visibility. The concave hardtop inspired the name “Pagoda” to which these cars are still affectionately referred today. The 280 SL was built from 1967 – 1971 and was designed to be the ultimate version of the car with its larger more powerful engine (170 PS power and 244 Nm torque in European specification) all round disc brakes and improved suspension. The 280 SL evolved from a Sports Car into a comfortable grand tourer as enhancements were progressively made throughout the car’s production lifespan. Almost 24,000 280 SL’s were produced of which over half went to the U.S. usually equipped with the 4 speed automatic transmission. U.S. specification cars were subject to mo

(SOLD) Assembled at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Stuttgart, Germany, during the summer of 1969, this fine 280SL left the factory on July 18 that year. As new, it was finished in DB568 Signal Red, with matching hard top, and trimmed with a black MB Tex interior. The 280SL was equipped for the home market, and found its first owner in the Duisburg area, in Germany's Ruhr region. The car's early history remains unknown, but at some point the Mercedes-Benz migrated to the United States, where it has remained since. The 280SL's exterior was finished in the current black, and it is apparent that many mechanical and cosmetic refurbishments have been performed over the years. It should be noted that the car's engine number does not match the one listed on the factory built records, and suggests that another unit has been installed. Displaying good panel gaps, this 280SL has that outstanding quality feel so indicative of the marque. Complete with hardtop, Becker radio, books, tools and copies of the factory build sheets, this fine example of the legendary Pagoda-top 280SL is ready for its next caretaker. Please note that this vehicle is titled as a 1970.

It is very stylish, extremely comfortable, and will make a great vehicle for touring road trips, as the 4 speed transmission will give you optimum handling performance on twisty, windy roads...but if you simply want a stylish classic to “just drive around town”, then this 280 SL is a great choice - perfect for trips to your favorite golf course or an evening of fine dining followed by a night on the town. With its striking appearance, luxurious leather interior and excellent maintenance history, it is apparent that the car has been very well cared for over the years, showing only 52,000 miles. During a recent restoration, the roadster was refinished in a beautiful and correct shade of Mercedes Silver and contrasting Red upholstery. Great care was taken to retain the original factory “darts” and spot welds that collectors of authenticity look for on these cars. The upholstery was upgraded from the original MB-Tex material to full, genuine leather, using correct original factory patterns, while the top fabric remains original. Importantly, the car is still equipped
