This is a pristine, rust free, impeccably maintained and garaged 280SL. This car is completely original except for a repaint performed approximately 3 years ago. A fine and rare example of any Pagoda in existence today.
This beautiful Mercedes SL Pagoda is available for a negotiated sale around £83,000 which is in the middle of our estimated sale range. See TradeClassics.com for a full write-up and over 200 images and videos. EXTERIOR This really is a great example of the gorgeous W113 body shape and in excellent condition inline with just one former keeper and the recent professional respray. The light blue colour, understood to be called China Blue, is simply gorgeous and quite rare – very understated. Wheels & Tyres Original 14in steel wheels are fitted with matching blue centre caps and wrapped in Michelin MX4 tyres. The wheels are in really good condition as can be seen in the media pack. Bodywork The bodywork is very good on this car. We found no obvious parking dents and the panel fit all looks visually correct. The doors, boot, bonnet all open and close perfectly. There are a few marks where the hardtop slots into the car as shown in the videos and images. Duncan has had a new hood frame installed, and it folds closed perfectly. When the hood is up, there is some adjustment that is needed to ensure the latch behind the rear window locks shut. Paint The paint work is also very good on this stunning 280SL. The light blue colour is even and deep on every panel, even in direct sunlight. We only found a few small blemishes / dimples in the paint. These have been highlighted in the images and video footage. Glass and Trim The glass and trim are both in excellent condition – no issues were noted. INTERIOR The interior on this 280SL is simply beautiful and deserves the ‘classic’ status. The interior colour is a light cream and the contrast against the blue dashboard and exterior is stunning. The cabin really is a lovely place to be with no issues noticed during our visual inspection, as expected as Duncan has had the interior refreshed as part of the work he commissioned. Seats and Carpets The leather seats are in excellent condition with hardly any wear as they have been subject to a recent renovation. Dashboard The dashboard and gauges are all in the condition expected with a two owner and well cared for car. Steering Wheel / Gear Stick The car has its original steering wheel and gear stick and both are in excellent condition. MECHANICS We took the car out on our regular ‘on the road‘ run and it performed without a problem, along with starting first time. Please review the video footage to see the cold start and how the car performed on a run whilst interviewing Duncan during the drive. Engine and Gearbox There are no issues with the engine or manual gearbox. The engine and gearbox all performed perfectly during our 5-6 miles road test. Suspension and Brakes The car has no knocks or rattles coming from the suspension. The Drive The drive was without fault with all gears being selected without issue. Electrics and Other No issues.
Variant name:280 SL ,Derivative:R107 , The R107 took the chassis components of the midsize Mercedes-Benz W114 model, The SL variant was a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and optional hardtop and optional folding seats for the rear bench. In October 1974, and in almost perfect timing in the aftermath of the 1973 energy crisis, the SL was expanded to receive the excellent 2.8-litre twin-cam to create the 280SL. Given that certain buyers were downsizing, and existing Pagoda owners greeted the new 280SL warmly, it's no surprise that the six-cylinder roadster went on to sell so well. This particular SL was first registered on the Island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, it came to the UK shores in 2011, The service history booklet has 21 Main Dealer and Specialist service stamps. Making it an idea useable and economical convertible complete with factory hardtop. Part exchange welcome. Competitive finance available. Mercedes Benz 280SL Auto 1971 The Pagoda Mercedes Benz is an Icon of Classic Motoring. Its stunning looks have made it so since launch in 1963 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model ran until 1971 when it was replaced by the 107 Series SL which was a much larger car. The car we offer for sale here is simply stunning, and is about as near to new as any car could be. Finished in Red with a pale grey leather interior, it’s just out of a massive three year restoration at one of the Country’s leading Mercedes Specialists. Three years is a long time for any restoration, and this car which began its life in the USA was remarkably rot free before work started, however it was stripped mechanically, and taken back to bare metal for a total nut and bolt rebuild. To say this car looks like it’s just left the factory in Stuttgart is almost an understatement. The photographs say more than words ever can as the car is totally stunning. Nothing has been left to chance. The interior, the engine bay, the underside looks brand new, and the paint finish…… I think it’s the best finish I've ever seen. The chrome, what hasn’t been replaced has been re-chromed to the highest standard. The hard top has been fully restored. The Hood is new. Carpets, again all new. I doubt there is a better Pagoda for sale anywhere right now, and at only £89500 has excellent potential for the future. If you are seeking a Pagoda, either to use or as a serious investment then you must not miss this car. It truly is an absolutely stunning example of the Marque.

In 1963 on the Geneva Motor show, the all new W113, Mercedes 'Pagoda' 230SL was introduced. Its very sleek and elegant design introduced a complete new Design wind within Mercedes. Beautifully designed by Paul Bracq, Béla Barényi and Friedrich Geiger, the design brought airiness, roominess and elegant timeless lines and was well appreciated by the public. Production of the Mercedes W113 commenced in June 1963 with the 230sl. Living up to the heritage of its predecessors, the infamous 300sl and the smaller 190sl, was a big task. However, with the uprated 250SL in 1966 and the biggest, 280sl model in 1967, it was a top selling product in the very high end luxury market and lived up to the task extremely well. The formula seemed to be a great success and the W113 Pagoda has iconic status today. The Pagoda is one of the most sought after 2-door sports roadsters for Sunday cruises as well for the heavier rally work. The top model, the 280sl, propels you with ease to 200km/h with the 170 horses underneath the bonnet. With an empty weight of 1360kg, the power to weight ratio can be called ' very sporty' and great fun! The car we offer you for sale is one of those 7.935 280SL units produced in 1970. It has been restored to very high standards and is almost new from top to bottom. It comes with the very desirable hard top, making it a very comfortable 'winter' car as well as a wonderful summer convertible cruiser. This example is the nicer European spec model, preserving the elegant lines and front headlight lenses. The white steering wheel, will give you that same high end feeling when you will sit in the new interior listening to the original Becker Mexico radio. The only thing you have to think of, is to put it in Drive. The automatic gearbox will do the rest. With a lovely summer coming up, you absolutely cannot be without this car. Capable of cruising to the Côte d'Azur or an speedy local rally, this Pagode in absolute stunning colour setting is the one to have. Please come over and inspect the car. We are convinced that you want to take it home after a test drive. http://www.historic-competitionservices.eu/nl/mercedes-280sl-pagoda

(SOLD) Assembled at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Stuttgart, Germany, during the summer of 1969, this fine 280SL left the factory on July 18 that year. As new, it was finished in DB568 Signal Red, with matching hard top, and trimmed with a black MB Tex interior. The 280SL was equipped for the home market, and found its first owner in the Duisburg area, in Germany's Ruhr region. The car's early history remains unknown, but at some point the Mercedes-Benz migrated to the United States, where it has remained since. The 280SL's exterior was finished in the current black, and it is apparent that many mechanical and cosmetic refurbishments have been performed over the years. It should be noted that the car's engine number does not match the one listed on the factory built records, and suggests that another unit has been installed. Displaying good panel gaps, this 280SL has that outstanding quality feel so indicative of the marque. Complete with hardtop, Becker radio, books, tools and copies of the factory build sheets, this fine example of the legendary Pagoda-top 280SL is ready for its next caretaker. Please note that this vehicle is titled as a 1970.

With its striking appearance, luxurious leather interior and excellent maintenance history, it is apparent that the car has been very well cared for over the years, showing only 52,000 miles. During a recent restoration, the roadster was refinished in a beautiful and correct shade of Mercedes Silver and contrasting Red upholstery. Great care was taken to retain the original factory “darts” and spot welds that collectors of authenticity look for on these cars. The upholstery was upgraded from the original MB-Tex material to full, genuine leather, using correct original factory patterns, while the top fabric remains original. Importantly, the car is still equipped
