Introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1969, the hardtop coupe cost a hefty $13,766 in 1971, giving it exclusivity from day one. With 230 SAE brake horsepower, 232 ft-lb torque, transistorized ignition and a smooth four-speed automatic transmission, the 280 SE 3.5 was fast, comfortable and had superb roadholding. This 280 SE 3.5 was originally built as a coupe and received a conversion to the cabriolet body style in 2000 as documented by over $15,000 in receipts.
