With the 1965 launch of the S-class saloon, the smaller engined versions of the Coupé and Cabriolet were both improved and rationalised by being given the 2.5-litre engine from the new cars. That added 30bhp, and rear disc brakes were added at the same time. Two years later, when the 300SE was dropped, the 280SE replaced both that and the 250SE with its 2.8-litre 160bhp straight-six with revised fuel injection for better economy. From 1969 a five-speed manual gearbox became an option. Cabriolets are worth around 70% more than Coupés.
