1967-1976 MERCEDES-BENZ 230.6/250/280E Saloon (W114) specificationshttp://www.classicandperformancecar.comClassic and Performance CarClassic and Performance Car
These saloons use the same bodyshell as the W115 cars but have six-cylinder engines, giving them the Mercedes range designation W114. Entry level is the 230.6 with 120bhp, joined at first by the 130bhp 250. The confusion starts in 1970 when the 250 is given a single-overhead-cam 2.8-litre engine, though the regular 250 continued for two years. Then in 1971 a 280 joined the range, using a different version of the 2.8-litre engine, this time with twin camshafts. This came in carburettor form, or as the 280E, with fuel injection, and only the latter came to the UK.
