1955 Mercedes-Benz 190SL

car description

1955 MERCEDES-BENZ 190SL ROADSTER #121-042-5501015. (Stock # 3667.) In 1954, Mercedes-Benz introduced a street-going production version of the 300 SL race cars which they had been building since 1952. At the New York Auto Show in 1954, Mercedes-Benz also introduced the 190SL, a car which shared the fabulous styling, engineering and fully independent suspension of its big brother. Although the 4-cylinder engine did not come close to matching the 6-cylinder performance of the 300SL, the car is beautiful and will cruise at highway speeds and handle well on country roads. Production of both the 190SL and the 300SL continued through 1963 at which time the new body-style 230 SL was introduced and superseded both of the earlier models. Both the 190SL and the 300SL have become very drivable collector items and are valued at many, many times their original cost. Our car was purchased in 1974 by a local (Tewksbury) resident who, through his 41 years of ownership and almost 20,000 miles of driving, restored the car so that today with its rebuilt original engine and restored body and interior, the car looks great and drives beautifully. Finished in gleaming black with tan leather and matching
