McLaren’s Special Operations department has announced that it will build 25 'Carbon Edition' 675LT Spiders. And they've already sold out…
After a lot of interest surrounding MSO’s special bare carbon fibre finish P1, McLaren has announced 25 special edition 675 LT Spiders, called Carbon Series, featuring a similar visual treatment.
Limited to just 25 units worldwide, the 675 LT Spider Carbon Series has apparently already sold out. While regular 675LT and its Spider counterpart already make significant use of Carbon Fibre, this special edition increases the amount by 40 per cent - something that MSO claims has taken a significant amount of extra development. It also means that the the extra carbon panels can’t be retrofitted to an existing 675LT Spider.
McLaren claims that it has remained true to the Longtail name – first seen over 20 years ago on the F1 endurance racer. The first of the modern era Longtails appeared last year, with the 675LT Coupe boasting the performance far behind that of the ultimate P1. McLaren positioned the coupe, and the Spider that followed later, as being focused on low weight, increased track ability and of course optimised high-speed aerodynamics associated with the extended rear bodywork of the LT racers.
Beneath all that carbon, the standard specification of the LT Spider remains the same. That means a highly-tuned 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine, pushing out a devilish 666bhp, resulting in a 2.9sec 0-62mph time and 203mph top speed.
Although it’s already sold out, production of the 25 Carbon Series LTs doesn’t begin until the Autumn.
