A Lotus Elan Plus 2S originally supplied to the late F1 driver Ronnie Peterson to star at Historics at Brooklands auction
Historics at Brooklands is readying its consignments for the next of its Surrey auctions the next month, on 11 June. Already gathering interest is a Lotus Elan Plus S2, formerly owned and driven by late Formula 1 driver Ronnie Peterson.
An estimate of £18,000-£22,000 has been placed on the Elan Plus 2S 130/5, which is said to be in very original condition. This matching numbers example comes painted in its original shade of Lagoon Blue, in good running order and is said to drive very well.
There is an extensive history file with the car, which is said to verify the authenticity of the Lotus, as well as many invoices documenting the comprehensive service history. Within the file there are also photographs of Peterson with the car, as well as official factory workshop manuals.
Said to be offered in the exact specification that Peterson would have enjoyed back in 1972, it’s interesting to note for Lotus aficionados that this was apparently the first chassis to leave the Hethel factory with a five-speed manual transmission.
Peterson was known by fans as ‘Super Swede’, and he was given the Elan in 1972 by Lotus boss Colin Chapman. This was due to the fact that the driver had left the March F1 team to join Lotus for the ’73 season. During that season, Peterson raced alongside Emerson Fittipaldi at the wheel of the John Player Team Lotus 72.
