Mayfair 020 7125 1400 | Maldon 01621 879579 From its inception the Lotus Cortina was designed with Motorsport in mind and appeared in its first race a mere nine months after its introduction in January 1963 when it took 3 rd and 4 th place at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting in September that year. While based on a production two door Ford body shell, the Lotus Cortinas were far from standard and featured uprated engines, brakes, suspension and lightened bodies. Other visible exterior changes included the factory colour scheme of white with a green stripe and the fitting of front quarter bumpers and discreet Lotus badges. Over the course of the next few years many famous drivers including Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Peter Arundell, Jacky Ickx, Jack Sears and Sir John Whitmore would achieve notable success driving the works Cortinas of Team Lotus. In addition to numerous victories in individual races, Jim Clark won the 1964 British Saloon Car Championship outright and Jack Sears achieved a class win the following year. One of the greatest successes, however, was achieved not in a works car of Team Lotus but in a Cortina of Alan Mann Racing Ltd. In 1965 Sir John Whitmore won the European

Mayfair 020 7125 1400 | Maldon 01621 879579 In 1963 one of the great collaborations in British Motor Manufacturing took place when Lotus Cars and Ford of Britain agreed to build a highly developed version of Ford’s latest saloon. The name for the new car was initially termed the “Consul Cortina Developed by Lotus” but quickly became known simply as the “Lotus Cortina”. The partnership suited both parties as Ford were keen to strengthen their reputation with exposure to motorsport and Lotus were keen to replace the expensive Coventry Climax engines used in their cars with a new twin-cam engine based on the Ford Kent design. To meet homologation requirements 1000 cars were required and so production of the new Lotus Cortina commenced in earnest at the Lotus Cheshunt plant with Ford providing the 2 door saloon body shells and Lotus undertaking the necessary mechanical and cosmetic changes. The key mechanical differences between the Lotus Cortina and its undeveloped cousin included an uprated 1,557 cc, 105 bhp engine, a Lotus Elan close-ratio gearbox and highly modified suspension, which included a thicker anti-roll bar, shorter struts and forged track control arms at the front and coi

Launched in 1996, the Lotus Elise was the ultimate handling, rear-wheel drive, mid-engined roadster, and has been continually developed throughout its life. One of the most notable changes was in 2001 when the series 2 was launched. Following a change in regulations relating to crash sustainability, the Elise underwent significant chassis modifications. In 2004, to allow the car to be sold in America Lotus switched from the Rover K series engine to a Toyota unit in order to pass the strict emissions regulations. The Elise SC “Super Charged” was announced in 2008, and was the first Elise to leave the factory with forced induction. Replacing the Elise R, peak power was upped to 217bhp at 8,000rpm, and thanks to the supercharger the power band begins at 4,000rpm rather than the 6,200rpm of the previous model. With its additional power and torque yet weighing just 903kg, the Elise SC sprints from 0-60mph in just 4.4seconds and on to a top speed of 150mph. The Lotus Elise SC offered here at Hofmann’s is a 2009 “09 plate” and is finished in Graphite Grey metallic with a bespoke Black and White leather interior. Having covered 49,087 miles this one owner example was supplied new by Lipsco

Click here to see the Lotus Esprit S4 V8 in action! 1997 Lotus Esprit V8 SCCFE33C5VHF65342 Norfolk Mustard with Black The Esprit was Lotus’ flagship model and was produced in a wide variety of specifications ranging from Giugiaro’s original and very 1970s S1 variant with naturally aspirated carbureted 2.0 liter inline-4 of 160hp all the way up to the last cars, which featured twin turbocharged 3.5 liter flat plane V8 powerplants of 350hp. Featuring striking styling that modernized over the years, along with increasing specification levels, the Esprit still looked contemporary even when the first V8 models were offered in 1996. Performance was genuinely first-rate, with 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and a top speed in excess of 175mph, figures that were competitive with Ferrari’s F355 and Porsche’s Turbo. The Esprit remained in production for 28 years and these V8 models were the ultimate development of one of the most exotic Lotus cars ever made. This particular car is an extremely clean example that drives great and presents very nicely as well. Currently part of a 75-car collection, this example has covered less than 600 miles since its current owner bought it in May of 2014. He fitted
About this Lotus Esprit V8 Firs registered by Lotus Cars in June 1996 (N Reg) this car was first kept by a Senior Partner in a large well known Accountancy Firm. The last owner a garage proprietor acquired the car in 2006. In 1996 the Esprit V8 used Lotus' self-developed all-aluminium, twin-turbocharged (Garrett T25/60 turbos) V8, code-named Type 918. The Type 918 engine was de-tuned from a potential 500 bhp to 350 bhp to prevent gearbox damage. In period tests, zero to 60 mph came in at 4.4 seconds and top speeds of over 175 mph were claimed to have been achieved. This Lotus has always been well maintained. Recent works include an engine rebuild with a new crank, turbos, camshafts and clutch; plus further significant works have been carried out including new brakes, headlights and tyres. With comparable 1990's super cars from exotic marques increasing in value, it can only be a matter of time before Lotus's Esprit follows suit.
Ronnie Peterson. It is virtually impossible to describe the affect this young, good looking, quiet and shy but seriously talented Formula 1 driver has had upon, not only the aficionados of the sport, but the public in general, creating a huge ripple of affection that is still felt today by the huge fan base that still exists. Nicknamed Super Swede, Ronnie Peterson rose from karting to Formula 3 to become European Formula 2 Champion in 1972 and came closest to winning the Formula 1 World Championship in 1973 and 1978. Peterson's first Grand Prix was in 1970 at Monaco driving for the Colin Crabb privateer team, Antique Automobiles Racing Team then progressing to drive for the March Team in 1971. In 1973, Ronnie signed for the John Player Team Lotus, partnering Emerson Fittipaldi, a team led by the ever-charismatic Colin Chapman with Peterson achieving his first win in a Lotus 72 at the 1973 French Grand Prix held at the Paul Ricard circuit. Three further wins that year led Peterson to third in the Championship. By 1975, the Lotus 72 was showing its age resulting with Peterson signing for Shadow; however, Chapman convinced him to stay at Lotus, promising faster development of the Lotus
