1971-1985 Land Rover Series III specifications Classic and Performance Car

More road-friendly driving manners and a better interior mark the Series III out as a usable classic Land Rover

Series III improvements are easy to spot thanks to the repositioned headlights (late SIIAs had them, too) and updated plastic radiator grille. The updated – more safety conscious – interior and all synchromesh gearbox acknowledged the opposition was catching up, and the option of overdrive catered for those who needed their Land Rovers for serious on-road work. It was during the Series III production that the Rover V8 engine was added to the range, initially in low compression form to allow it to run on whatever grade fuel its owner threw at it.
