1972 Land Rover Series 3 Short Wheel Base Soft Top. Tax Exempt! This vehicle is a early Series 3 and has many features that were carried over from the late Series 2a production. Such as Series 2a rear lights, gearstick, rear number plate on the right hand side and some other noticeable features. The dash is the early type with different style top vents compared to the later series 3 models. The interior has been fitted with Exmoor Trim door cards, hardura matting which is great for noise and vibrations, floor mats and a sand canvas. This lovely restoration that has been subject to a ground up rebuild which has included a new galvanised chassis. The restorer also decided to incorporate a 200 Tdi engine into the rebuild which makes modern day use much more bearable particularly in traffic and on motorways. An electric fan is fitted to help with the cooling in traffic. The upgrades are all very substantial and have been incorporated into the rebuild very well. The turbo has been removed but can be included with the vehicle. It runs really well without the turbo, due to the weight of the vehicle. The vehicle will be supplied with 12 months mot and also has the benefits of being tax exempt. Which is a saving of over £200 per year. A galvanised chassis was purchased and the rear crossmember was painted black to aid anti corrosion and to look as original. The axle casings were shotblasted and painted. Then rebuilt with all new brake parts, drums, shoes, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, seals, shock absorbers. Parabolic springs have been fitted, new bushes, new brake pipes and hoses, new engine mounts, gearbox mounts, exhaust. A servo as seen on the later Series 3's has been installed to help with the braking power and works well. There is also an oil cooler fitted behind the front grille for the engine. All modifications have been well thought of and neatly hidden. So the overall appearance of the vehicle looks like a standard Series 3 until you see it overtaking you in the fast lane at 70+ mph. Four-wheel drive and low range engage, as they should. The gears change up and down as they should and the gearbox has been subject to a full rebuild and a new clutch fitted. The vehicle fires at the turn of a key there is no smoke on start up and it pulls very well. Please study the engine bay pictures this is one of the best 200 Tdi engine conversion you will find in a Series 3. Minor repairs were done to the bodywork and new foot wells. All the electrics were re-wired with new lights and indicators, an electric radiator fan with a switch on instrument panel. (The viscous fan cannot be used due to the engine location and bodywork.) No expense has been spared. The vehicle was then fully repainted in Marine Blue with a Sand Canvas and Limestone wheels. There is a nice patina to the bodywork where it as worn away to the bare aluminium places it looks great. The vehicle will be supplied with a 12 months mot from the sale date. Photos really don't do this vehicle justice, it's strongly advised that you call and arrange a viewing. After the rebuild the vehicle has had little use, no towing just pottering about and garaged every night. Please note this Land Rover is a very good restoration and conversion and is by far one of the best we have ever had the pleasure of owning. The attention to detail really is a credit to the restorer and the way he has incorporated the upgrades to make the vehicle more drivable whilst retaining the original look of the vehicle until you open the bonnet. A test drive is highly recommended. This vehicle should give many years of happiness to its new owner. I will look fantastic on the beach towing your boat with the door tops off, vents open and canvas rolled up. With no worries about corrosion as the chassis is galvanised it will also be great on fuel with the 200 Tdi which was known as the bulletproof engine. This is one of the best examples presently on the market that isn't over £20,000. Land Rover Series 3 88" Genuine County Station Wagon. A81 DPH - First registered 5th October 1983. The Land Rover comes complete with a very extensive service history there are lots of previous mots dating back to 1994 were the vehicle had only covered 48,000 miles. Previous invoices show that no expense has been spent over the years in maintaining the vehicle. To find an unmolested example has become very hard, but to find one that has only covered ninety-eight thousand miles, retains all of its original panels, its original chassis, engine, gearbox and interior. INTERIOR The original factory fitted cloth front seat backs are in good condition as are the bases except for a small tear on one of the bases, they have never been replaced and are the original and have become very hard to source. Therefore finding a vehicle which has a complete interior is very rare. The rear seats are in very good condition and are fitted with individual lap belts there are also three seat belts in the front. Door cards to the front doors are original factory items and are complete and are in great condition. Sun visors that are perfect. As is the headlining. An exmoor trim carpet set as been fitted to finish off the interior. The spare wheel is mounted in the back when the seats are not in use. The dash is unmarked with no cracks or sun damage. A Radio has never been fitted and so the dashboard has been left unmolested. All windows open, all the window channels are good and have been replaced. The original triplex glass is still present and is in good condition. UNDER THE BONNET One of the best original engine bays we have seen on a Series 3, extremely clean with original stickers still in place. The original 2.25 petrol engine runs very well. Original paint to engine block which has the later 5 bearing crank and so is a very smooth and powerful engine. ON THE ROAD The factory fitted engine busts into life on the turn of the key. It is apparent that this is a vehicle that has been maintained and covered low mileage it runs as quiet and smooth as any Series Land Rover that we have ever had. A joy to drive and such fun, the vehicle's mot expires in September 2017. Four wheel drive and low range engage, as they should. The gears change up and down as they should it has a very quiet gearbox which is a good sign of it's light use over the years. It will be supplied fully serviced including engine, oil filter, main gearbox, transfer box, overdrive, diffs and the swivels. SUMMARY This is an unmolested and original Series 3 County Station Wagon in very good condition. All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document and that stamped on the chassis itself. This is one of the best low mileage and original Series 3 we have seen. In a very rare colour combination not many vehicle were made like this. This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its previous owners. What you see is what you get. Please do not expect absolutely pristine as the vehicle is 34 years old. However, you will have to go a long way to find a better vehicle. The original county stripes can be fitted to the vehicle, we have left this option open for the buyer as the stripes aren't to everybody's taste. VALUE Low mileage, history, condition, and originality will contribute greatly to the value of any classic. Anybody can restore a Land Rover to a certain standard however you can't make anymore-original low mileage vehicles and so for that reason these vehicles are becoming increasingly harder to find and so any opportunity to buy one shouldn't be missed. Opportunities to purchase a genuine county station wagon don't often come up so please don't miss this one. A Rare Opportunity to Acquire an Exceptionally Original, Unmolested & Very Desirable Series III Land Rover 88" Genuine County Station Wagon. This vehicle featured in Classic Land Rover Magazine earlier this year and is on the front cover!! Just 69,472 miles from new. First registered 8th October 1982. Unique in such good original condition and we think this is one of the lowest mileage best original county station wagon examples available. To find an unmolested example has become very hard, but to find one that has only covered sixty-nine thousand miles, retains all of its original panels, its original chassis, engine, gearbox and interior. BODYWORK The body work is very straight and is way above the average 34-year-old Series III Land Rover. It has benefited from a light polish and wax on all panels. The wheels are finished in Limestone, which is factory correct for a 1982 County Station Wagon. The underside has not been covered in underseal but preserved in new clean oil, you can still see the factory overspray under the wings and rear body this is exactly how they left the factory. No welding is required anywhere on this vehicle and it is ready to go. A few marks have been touched in with a touch up brush over the years but nothing considerably noticeable that requires any attention in the near future. INTERIOR Exemplary - by far the best original Land Rover Series III it still has its original Land Rover fitted floor mats. Which really helps keep the road noise down in the cab. The original factory fitted cloth front seat backs are in good condition as are the bases except for a small tear on one of the rear seat bases, they have never been replaced and are the original and have become very hard to source. Therefore finding a vehicle which has all it's interior complete is rare. Door cards to the front doors are original factory items and are complete and are in great condition. Sun visors that are perfect. As is the headlining. The dash is unmarked with no cracks or sun damage. A Radio has been fitted with speakers which have all been done in a period fashion and suit the vehicle well. The rest of the dashboard had been left unmolested. All windows open, all the window channels are good and because the vehicle has been kept under cover not rusted away as so often is the case. UNDER THE BONNET One of the best original engine bays we have seen on a Series 3, extremely clean with original stickers still in place. The original 2.2.5 petrol engine runs very well and with the overdrive engaged 70mph is easily achievable. A joy to drive and such fun, the vehicle will be supplied with a 12-month MOT with no advisories. Four-wheel drive and low range engage, as they should. The gears change up and down as they should which is a good sign of its light use over the years. It is also complete with Fairey Free Wheeling Hubs and a Fairey overdrive which all function correctly and improves the fuel consumption and drivability. SUMMARY This is an unmolested and original Series 3 County Station Wagon in immaculate original condition.
