EXTERIOR This iconic and outstanding Series 2a Land Rover is finished in traditional Bronze Green and shines with a mirror finish. Attention to detail can be witnessed in all areas including the immaculate underside with a new galvanised Richards chassis which will amaze spectators expecting to see utilitarian components plastered in mud. A totally rebuilt bulkhead with the correct pressings in the footwells and domed full rivets will satisfy perfectionists. Lucas headlamps mounted in the grille area reveal the early design features favoured by many. Beautifully basic in all respects the new Exmoor Trim full Khaki Canvas Hood and full hood stick set are brand new. This example is a real show winner. INTERIOR Sparse and utilitarian but packed with enduring Land Rover appeal this interior is truly sublime. Finished in expensive Grey Elephant Hide no interior trim item has been left untreated. Working fully refurbished gauges and switches run through a new wiring loom and the original steering wheel has been meticulously renovated. Heavy duty Land Rover rubber floor mats add a little comfort and all exposed Bronze Green metal work has an amazing gloss finish. The rear has a tilt bed with a spotless painted floor. Stunningly detailed in every respect the correct decals on the air cleaner, brake fluid reservoir and oil filter will please exhibitionists. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES The original factory pressed steel disc wheels are finished in unmarked gloss Bronze Green. Five new correct specification 600-16 Avon Traction Mileage tyres have been purchased through Vintage Tyres at a cost of £1,100. The hydraulically operated footbrake and the handbrake operating on the transmission shaft, performs well. HISTORY FILE This Land Rover Series 2a was registered new on the 6th September 1967 to Mr Peter Ernest Roalfe and a record of all owners since is documented in the history file. The current custodian, Ryan Dickinson, has embarked on a better-than-new restoration in a quest to reminisce fond childhood memories when he and his father would enjoy trips out in their new Land Rover. Purchasing a useable example which initially appeared to require only a minor recommission the full scale of the works necessary to meet Ryan’s exacting standards soon became apparent. Photos of the vehicle on initial purchase are included in the history file. The huge history file reveals the extent of the expenditure with all receipts neatly filed and providing the next owner with reassuring confirmation of the investment this example has enjoyed. A stark lesson of how much money is necessary to create such a beautiful example. Featured in Classic Land Rover magazine issue 56 Jan 2018, knowledgeable contributor Emrys Kirby, remarks ‘I knew the vehicle would be good because just about everything was new and clearly fitted with an obsessive eye detail’. Ryan has made the very difficult decision to sell the vehicle for personal reasons and a contribution of the sale proceeds are going to the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice to assist people aged 16 and over who are living with conditions like cancer, heart failure and lung disease. A truly amazing vehicle built with an unrivalled dedication to be one of the best. MOT March 2019, HPI Clear. XCX 195J – 1971 Land Rover Series 2a Lights in the Wing Soft Top Refurbished XCX has only covered 24,000 miles from new. It has had three owners since new of which a majority have owned the vehicle for long periods of time. The vehicle has until now remained in Royston all it’s life. Old mot's warrant the mileage as far back as 12,598 miles in 1996. The history file is excellent. First Registered 19th March 1971 this will be one of the very last series 2a's. Before Series 3 production started, note the vehicle always had later deluxe sliding seats, like a Series 3. It is in one of our favourite colour combinations Pastel Green with the Limestone Wheels. To find an unmolested example has become very hard, but to find one that has had just three owners, only covered twenty-four thousand miles, retains all of its original panels, its original chassis, engine, gearbox and interior is becoming very hard. The bodywork on XCX is immaculate and all the panels are straight with no dents or scraps. The interior still retains the original style Deluxe front seat backs and bases. It was also important to us that we kept as many original parts of the vehicle, as this wasn’t intended to be a fully restoration but a preservation. Door cards can be fitted should the buyer wish but we wanted to show their excellent condition, new rear bench seats have been fitted. It still retains all it's original triplex glass in the windscreen. The dash is unmarked with no damage. Original Land Rover seat belts are still fitted. The rear load space is very clean and this has never been a working vehicle. All windows open, all the window channels are good and because the vehicle has been kept under cover not rusted away as so often is the case. The load area is exceptionally clean and doesn't show any sights of heavy use and is presented with a rubber mat and the bench seats . XCX 195J has one of the best original engine bays we have seen on a Series 2a, extremely clean with original stickers still in place. The head has been refurbished and now benefits from harden valves and so you no longer need to worry about putting in lead additive. The block and head have been repainted in the correct colour, the vehicle benighted from a new exhaust manifold. There is also a very period Servo fitted which has been done very well and really does improve the brakes. Factory fitted inner mud shields unusually still both in place and are intact. The factory fitted engine busts into life on the turn of the key. It is apparent that this is a vehicle that has been maintained and covered low mileage it runs as quiet and smooth as any Series Land Rover that we have ever had. A joy to drive and such fun, the vehicle will have a full 12-month MOT from the day of sale. Four wheel drive and low range engage, as they should. The gears change up and down as they should it has a very quiet gearbox which is a good sign of it's light use over the years. The vehicle will be supplied fully serviced including engine, filter, main gearbox, transfer box, diffs ad swivels. Almost all Series Land Rovers we have had drip a little oil, some quite a lot, XCX 195J is the exception though no drips of oil to speak of even after standing for days in the same place. The steering is as it should be and the vehicle doesn't wonder on the road like some series vehicles do. All the tyres are have been replaced and are brand new. SUMMARY XCX 195J is an unmolested and well-presented Series 2a Softtop in immaculate original condition. All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document and that stamped on the chassis itself. The engine number also matches that recorded on the logbook. This is one of the best low mileage and original untouched Series 2a we have ever had the opportunity to own. This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its previous owners. It is very solid example that requires no work and is ready to use and enjoy. If you are an investor you will already know the growing importance of original un-messed with condition for classic cars. You will also know that Land Rover never used galvanised chassis for production of Series vehicles - so one that's been fitted with one cannot by any stretch claim to be original and un-messed with. If you are an enthusiast then you will not be disappointed with this vehicle as it is perfect in almost ever detail and is exactly as it left the factory 47 years ago. This is a very honest 47-year-old Series Land Rover. You will have to go a long way to find a better vehicle. Anything on this Land Rover that required attention has been done it is now faultless. Opportunities to purchase a genuine pastel green softtop don't often come up so please don't miss this one. Please see our website for more details. http://www.williamsclassics.co.uk
