Lamborghini Huracan Performante Nurburgring record – watch baby Lambo smash Porsche 918's lap time Classic and Performance Car

The new hardcore baby Lambo, known as the Huracan Performante, has set a 6:52.01 lap time at the Nurburgring. Watch the lap in full here

It seems as if a new Nurburgring lap record is being the broken every other week – from front-wheel drive hot hatches to super saloons eclipsing last year’s supercars. In a slight surprise announcement, Lamborghini has just confirmed that its upcoming Huracan Performante has just lapped the Green Hell in 6:52.01 – which makes it quicker than the Porsche 918 Spyder.

While none of the records are strictly official, manufacturers have been releasing these lap videos via YouTube for some time. The 918’s time of 6:57.00 stands at the top of the road-legal supercar list, although a couple of Radicals have gone faster previously. Whether or not these are strictly road cars is down to you...

Lamborghini has actually released its video – which shows test driver Marco Mapelli putting in sensational lap – before the upcoming Performante has even been fully unveiled. It’s expected that the hardcore model is expected to be unveiled later in the month.

Not a huge amount is known about the Performante at this point, although Lamborghini has previously teased a video of the car at the Ring, explaining the car’s clever new active aerodynamics – which probably contribute significantly to this time. Called Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva, the new system increases downforce when needed and reduces drag when it’s not.

We’ll have more news on the Huracan Performante when it’s launched, but for now you can enjoy this spectacular bit of driving in full:
