Rarity is a subject much discussed in Porsche collectibles, but truly rare 911s are few and far between. Porsche production ramped up significantly with the water-cooled cars, so while the later GT2 and GT3 models are great 911s, they were made in reasonable numbers. The real Porsche rarities hang from the air-cooled family tree.
With just 400 units worldwide and 150 of those bound for the UK that makes this 40th anniversary of the 1st Golf GTI something of a special hot hatch. If those stats don’t whet the appetite then maybe a record breaking hot lap around the nordschleife in the hands of Benny Leuchter at 7.49.21 does. Either way this is a rather exclusive piece of kit and no doubt will keep its owner occupied and entertained for some time to come.
