1981-1985 JAGUAR XJ-S 5.3 HE specifications

After a lean period in the late-1970s, where at one point, Jaguar actually stopped building XJ-Ss, 1981 saw the beginning of an unprecedented rennaissance for the XJ-S. Swiss engineer, Michael May designed a new high compression cylinder head that not only freed more power from the V12, but significantly improved economy – in real world, an XJ-S would now return 16mpg, rather than 12mpg. Its arrival coincided with an upturn in Jaguar build quality, and dealer service – and vastly improved sales were the result.
