A new event has been launched by the Endurance Rally Association, which will navigate the Baltic region.
There are few areas of the globe that aren't chartered by some form of rally. From rickshaw racing in India or the pre modern classic Icelandic SAGA rally, there is, it seems a rally for everyone (there’s even a blind rally in Mumbai).
And now there’s a new addition to the list: the Baltic Classic, which does exactly what it says on the tin: a vista-packed adventure across stretches of Scandinavia and north Eastern Europe.
Organised by the Endurance Rally Association (ERA), the Baltic Classic starts in Copenhagen and finishes in Berlin, taking in Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland on the way. The rally loops around the Baltic Sea with terrain ranging from gravel to forest sections.
The event - which runs from Sunday 28 May to 10 June 2017 - is open to both Vintage and Classic cars. ERA Rally Director Fred Gallagher explains: ‘The Baltic Classic is aimed at both newcomers to long distance historic rallying as well as experienced ERA competitors. The route has been chosen to combine the finest scenery this spectacular region has to offer while visiting areas steeped in rally history.’
The chosen route takes in acres of spectacular sub-arctic forests, miles of rolling countryside and long hours of daylight, making for an epic experience.
‘The competition element of the event will be familiar to those with experience of past ERA events, comprising regularity sections on wide, flowing gravel roads as well as special tests on private land and will be held entirely on non-damaging roads.’
Results will be calculated in Berlin at a poolside lunch and prize-giving ceremony. All participants – including automotive crews in and out of the car – can enjoy fine dining and accommodation in each of the countries on the rally. Competitors will also enjoy two crossings on board luxury ferries which sail the Baltic Sea as part of the route.
Entries are now being accepted for vintage, vintageant and classic cars pre-1976 for what is guaranteed to be a fantastic 14-days of rallying.
