The big-engined Jaguar saloon formula was born with the 3.4-litre Mk1 saloon
Although the 2.4 was a significant car in Jaguar’s evolution, the compact sporting saloon concept really came to life when the Coventry engineers crammed in the 3.4-litre engine from the XK140. Combined with the curvaceous styling and reasonably commodious interior, the potent 3.4-litre engine delivered performance previously reserved for the sports car sector. The 3.4 was launched as a sister car to the 2.4 and featured a wider grille, cutaway spats. Despite a higher price, the 3.4 sold nearly as many examples during its two-year run.
