Jaguar E-type reborn – Jaguar Classic announces £285k E-type restorations Classic and Performance Car

Want an E-type that has been rebuilt by the factory to better-than-new? The company is now offering fully rebuilt ‘Reborn’ cars for £285,000.

Joining the Classic Range Rover and Land Rover Series 1, Jaguar Classic has announced the first in its own Reborn series – the iconic Jaguar E-type. The first car to be rebuilt at the Coventry facility will be shown at the Techno Classica Essen show in Germany on 5-9 April.

A batch of ten cars will initially be rebuilt by Jaguar, and like Land Rover Classic’s offerings, the E-types will be comprehensively rebuilt using as much of the original car and its components as possible. Jaguar claims that the Reborn cars will be built exactly as they would have come from the factory, promising to deliver the ‘most authentic E-type restorations possible’.

Where the original parts can’t be saved, or are safety-critical, they are replaced with new items from Jaguar Classic Parts. Each panel has been reverse engineered, which means that Jaguar can effectively remove all traces of corrosion, then replace the panel with the best possible fit. Jaguar can also recreate the correct style of spot welds for all panels.

The first car to be completed is a 1965 Series 1 4.2 fixed head coupe, finished in Opalescent Gunmetal Grey with a red interior. Originally sold new to California in 1965, it covered a total of 75,000 miles in the US, before being placed into storage in 1983. Ahead of its rebirth. Jaguar selected this example because it was complete, with a full set of matching numbers.

Jaguar Classic has also confirmed that it will offer a small number of sympathetic upgrades for customers, at extra cost. This includes improved Series 2 front brake calipers, an all synchromesh gearbox as well as improved cooling.

Tim Hannig, Director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic commented: ‘The launch of E-type Reborn is a hugely exciting development for Jaguar Classic. The E-type is the most iconic sports car of all time, so we are delighted to be able to give new life to expertly selected examples for discerning customers around the world to own and enjoy.’
