Need a reason to get your classic out this weekend? Here are some of the best local and international classic car shows to visit in January
As car enthusiasts, we really are spoiled for choice with classic car shows these days. With so many high quality and accessible events available, both locally and further afield, there is a lot of fun to be had with our cars. As we enter into 2017, there are many old favourites to look forard to, while there are plenty of new and growing events to consider too.
While it's easy to get swept up in the the buzz surrounding the iconic events like the Goodwood Revival, some of the smaller events can also be incredibly satisfying – especially if it gives you an opportunity to take your classic car out for a blast. In the first three months of 2017, we have the fantastic Autosport International, Race Retro and the brand new Historic Motorsport International event – which joins the London Classic Car Show at London's Excel.
Here are some of the best events to look forward to over the next few months:
Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble
8 January | Bicester, UK
The first Scramble of the new year is sure to attract a good crowd as owners and enthusiasts blow away the cobwebs of the Christmas period. Representatives from Hagerty will be on hand to provide advice in the ‘Valuation Arena’, and visitors also have the opportunity to take to the sky in a Tiger Moth for a short flying lesson.
12-15 January | NEC, Birmingham, UK
The annual show at Birmingham’s NEC features something for fans of just about every motor sport discipline, but F1 buffs will have more to enjoy than most, with a display of 2016 team cars – all of them – plus appearances from the likes of Damon Hill and Felipe Massa. There will be tyre-smoking live action on the UK’s largest indoor racetrack, too.
12-15 January | Maastricht, The Netherlands
Key displays at the popular Dutch show in 2017 will include ‘70 Years of Ferrari’ and ‘Facel Vega: Grande Routières In a Class of Their Own’.
The Winter Trial
22-27 January | Austria
As in previous years, the exact route for the Winter Trial is being kept secret until shortly before the off, but we know that crews will begin their drive in Limburg near Maastricht, finishing six days later near Salzburg in Austria having passed through Germany and the Czech Republic. They’ll have to contend with around 30 regularity sections, and there are two night drives planned for the Trial class.
25-29 January | Daytona, USA
This Palm Beach event is chiefly known as a top-drawer gathering of Ferraris, but also features a concours open to other marques and good Historic racing action at Palm Beach International Raceway.
Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique
25 January – 1 February | Digne-les-Bains, France-Monte Carlo
Crews set out from Reims, Lisbon, Barcelona, Bad-Homburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Glasgow to convene in Digne-les-Bains in France on 28 January, from where the real fun begins. Over five days, competitors tackle regularity sections and 1000m-plus peaks in ever-changing conditions as they wind and slide their way towards Port Hercule in Monaco.

Switching places on the calendar with Rétromobile this year, the German show is an inclusive affair, with all eras and most marques represented by 650-odd exhibitors. Special displays this time will celebrate Zündapp and Karmann.
8-12 February | Paris, France
The halls of the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre in Paris are filled with some of the finest classic cars in the world, but there’s room for plenty of quirky fare, too; tank enthusiasts are always catered for here! Among the key displays at the 2017 show will be a tribute to Group B rallying, featuring Audi Quattros, Lancia 037s, Peugeot 205 T16s and many more mad machines besides.
21 Gun Salute
17-19 February | New Delhi, India
At once a vintage car gathering and a cultural tour of New Delhi, 21 Gun Salute sees India’s capital welcome a quality field of cars to the Red Fort in the centre of the city for a concours, before they motor past other historic sites such as the Akshardham Temple towards the Buddh International Circuit.
London Classic Car Show and Historic Motorsport International
23-26 February | Excel, London, UK
Following the success of 2015's inaugural London Classic Car Show at the ExCeL, as well as a strong second year in 2016, the organisers have announced that the 2017 Show will be complemented by a motor sport showcase. Among the attractions is a display dedicated to Cosworth’s enormously successful DFV engine, which turns 50 next year. Tickets can be booked now, and the price includes entry to both the Classic Car Show and Historic Motorsport International.
24-26 February | Stoneleigh, UK
The winter’s traditional historic motor show will feature an even noisier Live Rally Stage than usual, as Group B cars tear around Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire. Inside the venue visitors will enjoy a mixture of displays, auction action and live interviews with a variety of racing stars.
