When it came to replacing the 117, Isuzu once again turned to Giugiaro (now running ItalDesign) – this time adopting his Ace of Clubs design. Humble saloon pinnings again would underpin the coupé, this time the Gemini (closely related to the Vauxhall Chevette). The rather rudimentary suspension layout struggled to harness the power of its 2-litre turbo engine, and the company turned to Lotus in order to make it good. As it was, the Norfolk engineers did a good job, but not enough to save it in the UK. Now a popular retro classic, thanks to its exploitable RWD chassis.
