The Jalpa was Lamborghini’s last throw of the Urraco dice. Given that the Silhouette had been out of production for two years, it was an odd decision to revamp it for another attack on the 308, but that’s what Lamborghini did. The Jalpa was usefully quicker thanks to its enlarged (by Alfieri) 3.5-litre V8 engine, but the ‘70s throwback styling and Airfix interior should have been a barrier to sales. However, during its decade-long production run, the Jalpa bucked the trend and sold up to 200 per year, becoming Lamborghini’s most successful V8 yet.
