1966-1968 GLAS 2600 V8/3000
The final flowering of the Glas marque was by far its most impressive. The underpinnings were sound enough, being based on the 1700 saloon, but the DOHC V8 upfront had been created from a pair of 1300GT fours joined together. It was a delight to drive, and comfortable, too, thanks to a well engineered, conventional De Dion rear end with self-levelling. Frua styling was glamorous, and probably inspired the company that ended up taking over Glas – BMW. Rare and desirable now, and as a marque swansong, few better the Glas V8. Replaced by the BMW 2800CS.
