1980-1986 MERCEDES-BENZ 280/300SL (R107)
The strong-selling R107 roadsters were given a makeover in 1980. Nothing you’d really notice in the body, as this was still considered too good to mess with, but there were plenty of improvements under the skin. Main change was upgrading the standard gearbox from a four- to a five-speed manual. In September 1985 the six-cylinder twin-cam engine’s capacity was increased to three litres. That only added an extra 5bhp, but the torque figure was up by 21lb/ft, produced at lower revs. Both versions were good sellers that now hold their values well.
