1981-1982 DE LOREAN DMC-12
John DeLorean set out to build his own vision of a sportscar in the late 1970s and on paper it must have looked amazing. It featured a low-slung and pointy Giugiaro design, brushed steel outer skin, ‘gullwing’ doors and a fuel-injected 2849cc V6 engine mounted 911-style at the rear. Unfortunately, the 1981 reality turned out to be less stimulating. The car was so heavy that the V6 struggled to offer a sporty performance and the handling remained dodgy even after Lotus engineers had done their best. The company collapsed amid scandal in 1982.
