1983-1986 RENAULT 5 Turbo/Turbo 2
The first 400 Renault 5 Turbos were built in-line with Group 4 regulations with the intention of going rallying. This homologation special would have cost Renault too much money to put into full-scale production as there were so many lightweight aluminium parts unique to the mid-engined rally car. That is why Renault brought out the R5 Turbo 2. This more production-friendly car shared most of its components with the front-engined Gordini Turbo. The Turbo 2 was almost as fast as the Group 4 car, but it didn’t cost Renault anywhere near as much to build.
