The Ford Mustang was launched to the public at New Yorks world trade fair in 1964 and went on to be Fords most successful car launch since the Ford Model A. The Mustang created a whole new class of coupe style cars and gave rise to competors such as the Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird and is even credited with the inspiration behind the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri. The Mustang quickly became a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack having debuted at the 1964 Indianapolis 500 as the official pace car. The same year Mustangs came first and second in the informous Tour de France rally. Going onto dominate the drag racing scene, it was only a matter of time before standard road cars were being modified for illegal street racing.

Every panel on the car excluding the roof and bonnet were replaced with new lighter panels, the bodywork alone to over 1200 hours.
