Lairy looks made the Mexico and Sport the affordable face of high-performance Mk2 Escorts
Ford continued to offer sporty Escorts for both the masses and more focussed drivers with the Mk2. Intended for more general consumption were the Sport and Mexico. The Sport used a 1599cc engine with 84bhp extracted from it, just enough to make it capable of the ton. However, to give the impression that it was capable of more, it had special wheels, spotlamps perched above its split front bumpers and pinstriping with ‘1600 Sport’ branding. The Mexico, sold from 1976-78, did similar with its looks, but added touches from the RS2000.
