In the mid-1980s the hot hatch ruled, and without one Fiat would have missed a great opportunity. Like Renault with the 5, they decided to go down the route of forced induction and the Uno Turbo i.e. was born. Fiat cleverly decided to price the Turbo to directly compete with the 205 GTi, but straight-line speed alone was not enough to take sales from the mighty lion, and the Uno lacked overall finesse in the chassis department when put up against its rivals. The car received a mild face-lift in 1989, when power was increased from 105 to 118bhp.
