UK specialist to set up new showroom in the USA, under the name ‘Morris and Welford, a JD Classics Company’.
JD Classics has announced plans to expand into the USA, with a new dealership scheduled to open in Newport Beach, California, later this month.
The new dealership will be the creation of Miles Morris and Malcolm Welford of Morris and Welford LLC, and Derek Hood of JD Classics, and will be called Morris and Welford, a JD Classics Company. Together, they aim to create one of California’s most prestigious car dealers, backed up by the team’s many years of combined experience.
Morris and Welford has brokered around $650m of classic car deals in the last ten years. Miles Morris is the former head of Christie’s classic car business and is an official FIVA inspector and examiner. Among Morris’s many accolades is judging at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where he also serves as a member of the Selection Committee.
Motorsport and classic cars are in his blood too. A third-generation collector and enthusiast, his grandfather raced cars at Brooklands prior to World War I, while his father – Martin Morris – was well known for historic racing, notably in a Works D-Type Jaguar and an ERA.
Welford too has a motorsport background. Although based in Newport Beach today, he grew up watching racing in England in the 1960s with his father at Goodwood, Oulton Park, Brands Hatch and countless club circuits.
JD Classics was established in 1987 by Derek Hood. The classic car specialists have sponsored – among many events – the Mille Miglia.
Derek Hood commented: ‘Miles and Malcolm are highly respected professionals in the classic car business. They are passionate about the cars, trusted by their clients and they both believe in delivering the highest level of quality. These traits are entirely consistent with the values JD Classics holds dear and I am delighted we have been able to join together in this new venture in Newport Beach.’
JD is currently looking to consign as well as purchase significant cars to fill the new showroom, of which construction and decoration is underway.
