RM Sotheby’s will join with Ferrari for a 70th anniversary auction, featuring some of the greatest cars ever built by the Italian manufacturer.
RM Sotheby’s has announced a new Ferrari-only auction for 2017, which will be held on 8 September in Maranello. Working in partnership with the Italian marque during its 70th anniversary year, the sale is said to feature some of the ‘most valuable and sought-after Ferraris on the planet’.
The partnership between RM and Ferrari follows on from the previous 2007–2009 ‘Leggenda e Passione’ auctions, as well as the charity auction of a new LaFerrari at the end of 2016. This sale saw the unique example offered at the Ferrari Finali Mondial event at Daytona, finally selling for $7million – with proceeds going help the victims of the earthquake in central Italy.
The partnership will extend throughout 2017, with various Ferrari attractions across RM auctions, building up to a main event at the Maranello factory auction on 8 September. It will feature a selection of the greatest sports, GT and racing Ferraris ever built, although none have yet been announced. All of the cars offered will come complete with Ferrari Classiche certification.
RM has a good track record when it comes to selling top-level Ferraris – with four of the top ten most expensive ever sold at auction coming from the Canadian auction house. RM also says that around 40 per cent of the cars it has ever sold for more than $1million have been Ferraris.
Rob Myers, CEO and Founder of RM Sotheby’s commented: ‘For collectors and enthusiasts alike, the sale represents a world-class and singular event, perhaps one of the most significant auctions ever held, in fact. We are deeply honored to hold this distinction and feel that this represents exactly what our customers expect from an association between such storied and historic brands as Ferrari and RM Sotheby’s.’
