A new auction house has launched, and it promises a 'more enjoyable buying and selling experience'
Berlinetta Classic Car Auctions, a new name to the UK classic car auction scene, has announced its first sale on 7-8 May 2016. The new company has been set up by two brothers, Rob and Pete Thornton, who have founded the company with the intention of ‘making the whole process of buying and selling a classic car more enjoyable’.
Rather than a live auction, the cars will be offered online - with bidders able to register the bids at any time over the course of the weekend. Where this is different to most other online auctions is that each of the the 25 cars offered in the first sale will be available to view, inspect and in some cases test drive on site. Berlinetta calls this ‘try before you buy’.
The setting for the first sale will be the Manor Country House Hotel, Weston-on-the-Green near Oxford. The price of a hotel room is included in the seller’s £300 entry fee, with the hope that most sellers will stay and talk to potential buyers about the car’s history and condition.
The brothers commented: ‘Selling a classic car should be more than just a transaction. We aim to turn it into a sociable, enjoyable and ultimately profitable experience by offering sellers a weekend away in beautiful surroundings in the company of other like-minded enthusiasts.’
