Need a reason to get your classic out this weekend? Here are some of the best local and international classic car shows to visit in August 2017

As car enthusiasts, we really are spoiled for choice with classic car shows these days. With so many high quality and accessible events available, both locally and further afield, there is a lot of fun to be had with our cars. Whether planning a trip to an old favourite such as the Goodwood Revival, or you're looking to try one of the many new events, you're never short of options. 
While it's easy to get swept up in the the buzz surrounding the big events like the Silverstone Classic, some of the smaller events closer to home can also be incredibly satisfying – especially if it gives you an opportunity to take your own weekend car out for a blast.

Here are some of the best events to look forward to this weekend, and the rest of August: 

Monterey Car ‘Week’

11-20 August | California, USA

Monterey Car Week 2017

There’s so much to see and do that it’s almost bewildering: auctions galore and a dozen concours and car shows, including, of course, the prestigious gathering on the golf course at Pebble Beach that started it all. And at nearby Laguna Seca you’ll find some excellent historic racing in the form of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. CarFest South

25-27 August | Hampshire, UK
Carfest South

Immerse yourself in everything automotive at this family-friendly carnival, being held once again at Laverstock Park Farm in Hampshire. As well as a plethora of new and classic cars, there’s evening entertainment from the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs and Seasick Steve. 

Wings & Wheels

26-27 August | Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey
Entertainment on the ground and in the air at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, and in a good cause, too: money raised will go to a variety of charities, including Help for Heroes and Brooklands Museum.

Isle of Man Classic TT

26 August – 1 September | Isle of Man
Today’s motorcycle heroes race yesteryear’s bikes around the daunting island circuit. The event incorporates the Festival of Jurby, 
a huge gathering of classic bikes.

Salon Privé

31 August – 2 September | Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, UK
Salon Privé

Back at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, the concours with fabulous cars old and new presents a tribute to 70 years of Ferrari.

Lime Rock Historic Festival

31 August – 4 September | Connecticut, USA
Starting on the Thursday with the Vintage Race & Sports Car Parade, the festival features racing and a concours. Richard Attwood is this year’s Honoured Guest.

Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort

1-3 September | Zandvoort, The Netherlands
The popular pre-’61 and pre-’66 Grand Prix cars return after a year’s absence from the Dutch event to join packed grids in three days of racing for open-wheelers and GT cars.

Concours of Elegance

1-3 September | London, UK

Concours of elegance
The fabulous Hampton Court Palace was his favourite residence, and there could be no better place to host the Concours of Elegance, which will grace its sprawling lawns on 1-3 September.
Following the success of the previous five events, held at Royal piles including Windsor Castle, the basics of the Concours remain unchanged: around 60 of the world’s finest cars will assemble in the gardens of the venue, forming the focal point of a most civilised three-day spectacular.

A glance at the list of entries confirms there will be absolutely no filler, and visitors will encounter everything from a 1904 Mercedes 28/32 Simplex to a 2005 Aston Martin DBR9. Among the cars we’re most excited to see are the 1934 Tatra 77 Streamlined Saloon, 1939 Frazer Nash BMW 328, as well as a beautiful OSCA MT4LM Vignale Coupé. 


Bo’Ness Revival 

2-3 September | West Lothian, Scotland
Enjoy a busy weekend of classic car road runs, rallies, hillclimbing and static displays and entertainment.

Beaulieu International Autojumble

2-3 September | Beaulieu, Hampshire, UK

Beaulieu International Autojumble

The vast sale of motoring bits and bobs represents as great a threat as ever to your bank balance.

Goodwood Revival

8-10 September | West Sussex, UK
The pinnacle of historic racing, with fierce competition on a circuit unchanged in layout since 1970. As well as the breathtaking racing there’s the fun of dressing up in period garb, and there are further attractions including a vintage funfair and WW2 aircraft. Rømø Motor Festival

8-10 September | Rømø, Denmark

In only its second year of running, this Danish beach racing event looks like a lot of fun. Participants are encouraged to dress to match the era of their vehicle and there are numerous bands playing on the Friday and Saturday evenings. 

Tour Britannia

9-10 September | Bridlington, UK

Tour Britannia
Comprising three events around the Bridlington area of the UK, Tour Britannia features a weekend- long car show, an 85-mile driving challenge and a Saturday night Sportsman’s dinner with ex-F1 driver – and the original ‘Stig’ – Perry McCarthy as guest speaker. 

Arts & Elegance Richard Mille

10 September | Chantilly, France

Arts & Elegance Richard Mille

Comparatively still in its infancy, this glamorous concours is inked into the diaries of motoring enthusiasts around the world. Held at the beautiful Château de Chantilly in northern France, the concours itself takes place on the Sunday; there are also road rallies for classics and supercars, and the traditional Bonhams auction.
