Launched at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Ferrari's new flagship two-seater berlinetta, the 458 Italia, marked a massive leap forward from the company's previous mid-rear engined sports cars. The car benefits hugely from the company's Formula 1 experience. The car's steering is tight and responsive and the brakes sharp and extremely effective. Ferrari worked hard on reducing internal friction in the engine, which led to radical fuel economy increases- so much so that the car consumes less fuel than its predecessor, the F430, despite higher total displacement and power. The interior of the 458 is completely new. The steering wheel is a pleasure to be sat behind, the dashboard focusing on the tachometer, with two screens either side providing extensive data on the car's behaviour and state. Perhaps the most significant attribute of the car though is the inclusion of the dual clutch gearbox. Its two clutches simultaneously engage the current gear and the next, making shift times almost non-existent.
