Ferrari 288 GTO, Porsche 959 fetch stron money at Bonhams' Bond Street sale on 30 November
Bonhams’ Bond Street sale on 30 November saw a grand total of £12,777,450 worth of cars, motorcycles and even an aeroplane go under the hammer, with many cars reaching high and in some cases record prices. A reasonably small affair, the sale excelled at offering some of the finest cars available at the top of the market.
The star of the auction happened to be the ex-works 1969 Porsche 908.02 'Flunder' Langheck Group 6 racer, which sold for £2,185,500. A brace of 1980s supercars also encouraged lively bidding, with a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO selling for £1,513,500 and a Porsche 959 ‘Komfort’ finishing above estimate at £505,500.
Also achieving a decent result was a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Alloy-bodied Berlinetta, selling to a telephone bidder at £1,821,500. An auction world record was also broken as the Alpine Cup-winning ex-works 1934 Talbot AV105 'Alpine Racer' sold for £1,379,100.
One of the last Aston Martin Vantage Le Mans V600 coupe models also attracted some attention. With just 4846 miles on the clock, this 550bhp and 550ft lb powerhouse sold for £348,700.
James Knight, Bonhams Group Motoring Director, said: ‘We had a full auction room with bids also coming in from across the world for our annual Bond Street Sale. In only its second year, the auction achieved over 80 per cent sold, with a diverse selection that included veteran motor cars, 1980s supercars, Le Mans entrants, iconic motorcycles and even a 1930s aeroplane - it was an eclectic sale, but one full of interesting and important consignments.’
