Le Mans-winning Ferrari 275P to be auctioned in 2018

Le Mans-winning Ferrari 275P to be auctioned in 2018 Classic and Performance Car

Artcurial will offer the Le Mans-winning Ferrari 275P at its Paris Retromobile auction next year.

Artcurial has announced the first major consignment to its 2018 Retromobile auction, the Le Mans-winning 1964 Ferrari 275 P. Offered from the Bardinon Collection, this model represents a significant piece of Ferrari history, being the final ever works Ferrari car to win at Le Mans.

Jean Guichet and Nino Vaccarella piloted Chassis 0816 through a very consistent race, covering 4695.3km at an average speed of 196.638km/h. Following this victory, the prototype 275P was sold to the USA, where its success continued. This included three attempts at the Road America 500, where it finished 22nd in 1965, 9th in 1966 and 10th in 1967.

The 275P was an evolution of the dominating mid-engined 250P, featuring a larger 3.3-litre engine and a power output of around 320bhp. The open-top body was built by Scaglietti, and along with the larger-engined 330P, it was responsible for another period of Ferrari domination of motorsport – including this very car’s win at Le Mans.

Matthieu Lamoure, managing director at Artcurial commented: ‘This Ferrari 275 P represents the ultimate and the truly exceptional. It has reached the summit in sports car racing worldwide. To look at this automotive masterpiece, is to see the best and most prestigious racing provenance. It radiates the DNA of success. Artcurial Motorcars is proud and delighted to present for sale the last works Ferrari to have won the most mythical endurance race in the world.’

Artcurial hasn’t yet put an estimate on the 275P, but has hinted that it’s expected to be in the same region as the €32m 1957 Ferrari 335 S Scaglietti, sold at the same auction earlier this year.
