The ‘LM’, if you haven’t already worked it out, stands for Le Mans, the spiritual home of competition Ferraris and somewhere these cars did indeed race. They weren’t the planned success, however, as the FIA wouldn’t homologate them as a replacement for the 250 GTO in the GT class, so they had to compete against the more powerful Prototypes. That said, the 250 LM still stands as Ferrari’s first series production mid-engined car and many of the 32 built racked up good competition careers in the hands of privateers.
