Video: Running for the first time in 50 years

A short film of the Halford Special running for the first time in over 50 years.

Believed to be the first turbocharged car in the world, the Halford Special is a monumentally important car. Mark Dixon tells the full story in Octane issue 84, and this video shows the car running in 1980, more than 50 years after it was de-commissioned.

A very special special

This is vintage stuff, in every sense of the word. It's been great to stumble on the sight and sound of this car now (2010) which I was first acquainted with around 1955 in John Bolster's book "Specials", which I still have. How the DVD brings the Halford Special to life. As well as that wonderful exhaust note, there are some nice flicks and twitches of opposite lock. Congrats to the team of restorers and operators!
