Bond’s DB5 is guaranteed to make big money – the last one that came up for sale went for over million in 2006 – but the best of the surviving film cars is the one that has been owned by American Jerry Lee since 1969, chassis number 1486, which starred in both Goldfinger and Thunderball in the action scenes.
It was known as the Road Car and was intended for use in scenes that were deemed too risky for the gadget-laden Effects Car. However, shortly after filming Thunderball it was fitted with all the Bond gadgets, and with the original Effects Car long since disappeared the Road Car is now the most desirable example of what has been referred to as ‘the most famous car in the world’.
