After trying its hands at producing fridges, scooters, air-conditioning and the Isetta bubble car, Iso turned its gaze on the luxury car market in 1962 with the Rivolta, a steel-bodied car with more than a passing resemblance to the Gordon Keeble. Like all subsequent Isos it was powered by an American V8 engine.
The car Iso is best remembered for, the Grifo, created by Giotto Bizzarrini, was launched the following year and stayed in production until Iso closed its doors in 1974. With a range of cars that had reached their sell-by date, the final nail was driven into the company’s coffin by the oil crisis.
